A graduate from Dalhousie University’s Municipal Governing program, Martin Bell is well versed in Nova Scotia politics. In his third term as Municipal Councillor for the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg, Martin still sees lots of challenges to enhance our local lifestyles.

Martin Bell Profile In 2000, Martin received a certificate in Fire Service Leadership, launching his professional fire service volunteer career. Martin has served as president of the Maritime Fire Chiefs Association and the Nova Scotia Fire Officers Association. He currently is the national President of the Canadian Volunteer Fire Services Association.

Always proud to be active in his community, Martin has served several terms on the South Shore Residential Tenancies Board and currently serves as a volunteer Director with Bluenose Coastal Action Foundation. Council has also appointed him to serve on the Fire & Emergency Services Committee, the Municipal Police Advisory Committee, the Wastewater Management Committee, the Tourism Committee, and he was elected Chairman of the Municipal Audit Committee.

With his extensive municipal service background and time volunteering for his municipal constituency and province, Martin is focused on engaging and encouraging participation. His years of talking to constituents and helping them to resolve issues, Martin believes in setting achievable goals and innovative solutions to the issues facing the South Shore and all of Nova Scotia. Martin was recently appointed to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Advisory Board. The function of an advisory board is to provide advice to council in relation to the enforcement of law, the maintenance of law and order and the prevention of crime in the municipality.

Martin’s practical experience lends comfort to tackling the complexity that is within the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg.
